Education is an Opportunity out of Poverty

Chris Oyakhilome, the founder of the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International (COFI), put a great deal of emphasis on education when he said:

“For indigent children, Education is the number one opportunity for a way out of poverty.”

At COFI we believe that education is a basic human right, a public good, and a public responsibility. Through various initiatives, we are reaching out to hundreds of thousands of children in needy communities all around the world, to try and provide essential educational materials to enhance learning at home and promote literacy skills, making it easier, more interactive, and convenient whilst awaiting the resumption of school.

Education and Breaking Cycle of Poverty

Education is also at the heart of the Sustainable Development Goals, as set by the United Nations. It can be the catalyst needed to pull families and communities out of the cycle of poverty. Knowledge gives children the power to dream of a better future and the confidence needed to pursue a full education, which in turn will help generations to come.

Through various initiatives, the InnerCity Mission (ICM),  under the COFI umbrella, together with a network of partners and volunteers are reaching out to hundreds of thousands of children in needy communities all around the world, to try and provide essential educational materials to enhance learning at home and promote literacy skills, making it easier, more interactive and convenient whilst awaiting the resumption of school.

With fewer resources and less of a focus on education at home, children growing up in poverty are behind from the very beginning. Poverty and education are inextricably linked, because people living in poverty may stop going to school so they can work, which leaves them without literacy and numeracy skills they need to further their careers. Studies have repeatedly shown a link between poverty and education.

Make a Difference with COFI

This year, join us to sponsor 5 million children who can’t afford the cost of Education, where your sponsorship will provide a chance at a better future. By giving to this cause with $100 or its equivalent in your local currency, you can provide educational support in the form of a full school sponsorship for a child, ongoing school building projects, provision of school material for several students, and the ability to make a difference.

Without Education, many children may never have a chance out of poverty that is why this year, we are determined more than ever to give 5 million children the opportunity to return #backtoschool and at least finish their primary education.

School resumes on the 10th of January, and we are preparing to send as many children back to school as we possibly can. Pupils across the eight centers of the #InnerCityMission Nursery and Primary schools are set to return for a new school term. We need your help to help to get them ready for the new academic year, with school supplies, school clothing, school bags and any small thing you can give to provide for these children who deserve better. Let’s give these children a fresh start, and make this year a year of possibilities, opportunities and the reality of getting closer to closing the poverty gap.

Make a difference here.
