World Teachers’ Day is held annually on 5 October to celebrate all teachers around the globe. Eighteen months into the COVID-19 crisis and global pandemic, the #WorldTeachersDay2021 will focus on the support teachers need to fully contribute to the recovery process under the theme “Teachers at the heart of education recovery”.

In a joint statement from UNESCO, UNICEF, Education International and International Labor Organization (ILO), these bodies showed global support for our teachers by saying:

“On World Teachers’ Day, we are not only celebrating every teacher. We are calling on countries to invest in them and prioritize them in global education recovery efforts so that every learner has access to a qualified and supported teacher. Let’s stand with our teachers!”

COFI Aims to Close the Gap in Education Caused by COVID-19

Education is a priority for indigent children and can help end the cycle of poverty. Due to the ongoing crisis and COVID-19 pandemic, schools were closed, and students worldwide had to switch to online learning. But this adversely affected many children living in the inner cities who could not afford the luxury of online schooling, which is why the World Teachers’ Day will showcase the effect that the coronavirus pandemic has had on the teaching profession, and will highlight effective responses, and aim to establish the necessary measures that need to be taken to ensure that teachers develop their full potential.

Poverty and education are inextricably linked, because people living in poverty may stop going to school so they can work, which leaves them without literacy and numeracy skills they need to further their careers.

With fewer resources and less of a focus on education at home, children growing up in poverty are behind from the very beginning.

Family income is one of the strongest predictors available for measuring success, both in the classroom and later in life. Those living below the poverty line will also be more likely to keep their children out of school, which means that their children will also have a greater chance of living in poverty.

The effects of poverty on children are wide-reaching and can lead to lifelong struggles, especially when young people don’t receive full educations. Sponsor a child here to go back to school and help these children reach their full potential.
