On June 7th, COFI joined the world in coming together to observe World Food Safety Day, highlighting the importance of safe and nutritious food for all.
This annual observance serves as a reminder that food safety is essential for good health and well-being. Foodborne illnesses caused by bacteria, viruses, parasites, or chemicals pose a major threat to public health worldwide.
With around 600 million cases each year, these illnesses particularly affect vulnerable groups like women, children, and marginalized communities.
World Food Safety Day aims to raise awareness and encourage action to prevent, detect, and manage foodborne risks.
Organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), this day emphasizes the critical role of food safety in ensuring food security, improving health, boosting economic prosperity, and promoting sustainable development
The slogan for World Food Safety Day, “Food safety, everyone’s business,” highlights that ensuring safe food is a shared responsibility.
Governments, food producers, and consumers all play important roles in making sure our food is safe.
This includes following good agricultural practices, maintaining effective food safety regulations, and using food safety management systems.
COFI’s Role in Promoting Food Safety
The Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International (COFI) fully supports the goals of World Food Safety Day.
COFI is dedicated to ensuring that vulnerable populations have access to safe and nutritious food.
Through its various food campaigns and initiatives, COFI works tirelessly to improve food safety and security, especially in regions where access to safe food is limited.
For COFI, food campaigns are an essential part of their mission to help various communities.
These campaigns not only provide immediate relief but also promote long-term food security by educating communities about food safety practices.
By organizing food drives, distributing nutritious meals, and implementing food safety training programs, COFI ensures that the communities they serve can prosper.
Community Engagement and Strategic Partnerships
COFI believes in the power of community engagement and strategic partnerships. By working with local communities, government agencies, and international organizations, COFI implements practical solutions to food safety challenges.
These efforts include providing food safety training programs, supporting good agricultural practices, and enhancing food supply chains.
As we observe World Food Safety Day, COFI reaffirms its commitment to making food safety a priority. Through collective action and collaboration, we can ensure that everyone has access to safe, nutritious, and sustainably produced food.
Together, we can create healthier and more prosperous communities worldwide.
Join COFI in celebrating the importance of food safety and in taking action to protect the health and well-being of people around the world.
5 Billion Meals Campaign
We are currently running the “5 Billion Meals” campaign because we believe that no child should go to bed hungry!
Hunger is a harsh reality for indigent children, and it affects their health, education, and overall well-being.
