Imagine a world where every human has a right to education, how completely different our world would be. Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International (COFI) strives to make an impact on the lives of those who the world forgets. Working in partnership with local organizations in both the public and private sector COFI works to eradicate poverty. The many different NGOs that makeup COFI not only works to counter the effects of poverty but to build a sustainable future. One of the biggest contributors to ending poverty is ensuring children have an education. For any child, education can open doors to the future that would otherwise be locked tight.

Invest in Female Education

An estimated 40 percent of the poorest countries failed to support learners at risk during the COVID-19 crisis, and past experiences show that both education and gender inequalities tend to be neglected in responses to disease outbreaks. Domestic chores, especially for girls, and the work required to run households or farms, can also prevent children from getting sufficient learning time. As with previous pandemics, COVID-19 has shown that education institution closures represent an increased risk for women and girls, as they are more vulnerable to multiple types of abuse, such as domestic violence, transactional sex, and early and forced marriages. A recent study highlights that women are bearing the greater share of additional time spent on childcare and household tasks. Coupled with the present economic disruption, this will likely contribute to higher earning gaps, thus widening gender inequality. Girls have the same right to education as boys do. Educated girls can make informed choices, build stronger families, communities, and economies. An educated female population increases a country’s productivity and fuels economic growth.

Testimonies of Hope and Restored Dreams

Jamilah, Kubra, and Asma’u never had the opportunity to access Education due to the crisis that occurred in Northeast Nigeria but thanks to your partnership, these children and thousands more now access our learning center in Maiduguri, Borno State. Another opportunity is here again to help more vulnerable and indigent children access education by sponsoring them with the #BacktoSchool campaign this new academic term.

Remi’s story is one that never gets old. Remi was 6 years when she first saw a mannequin during one of the InnerCity Mission exhibitions. She silently wished to have what the mannequin had, the school uniform, the school bag, school shoes, and of course, the school it attended. Through our partners and sponsors her wish came true and today Remi is a pupil of the InnerCity Mission School.

Duchess is a beneficiary of the InnerCity Mission #BackToSchool Campaign. Her father lost his job and found it difficult to get another. Things became tough for the family as they could not afford to pay for their accommodation so they had to squat with a relative. Feeding became very difficult and education wasn’t an option. Through our various partners, Duchess was able to enroll in the InnerCity Mission School to complete her education. With outstanding performance, she was amongst the best graduating pupils. In commemoration of the International Day of Education on the 24th & 25th, join us to restore the dreams and hopes of children who have dropped out of school or have never been to school due to financial constraints  https://icm.ngo/donate

Education is the right of every child and key to sustainable development. It offers children a ladder out of poverty and a path to a better future.

(Matthew 25:35-40) AMP, For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; I was naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me [with help and ministering care]; I was in prison, and you came to Me [ignoring personal danger].’ God is counting on us to speak out for the poor in our world and we’re doing this by providing education for as many needy children as possible.
