Yesterday saw the celebration of women worldwide as we commemorated International Women’s Day. Gloria Steinem, world-renowned feminist, journalist, and activist once explained: “The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.” So make International Women’s Day your day and do what you can to truly make a positive difference for women.

Gender Equality by 2030

One of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) is to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change, and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women, who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.

Invest in Female Education with COFI

An estimated 40 percent of the poorest countries failed to support learners at risk during the COVID-19 crisis, and past experiences show that both education and gender inequalities tend to be neglected in responses to disease outbreaks. Domestic chores, especially for girls, and the work required to run households or farms, can also prevent children from getting sufficient learning time. As with previous pandemics, COVID-19 has shown that education institution closures represent an increased risk for women and girls, as they are more vulnerable to multiple types of abuse, such as domestic violence, transactional sex, and early and forced marriages. A recent study highlights that women are bearing the greater share of additional time spent on childcare and household tasks. Coupled with the present economic disruption, this will likely contribute to higher earning gaps, thus widening gender inequality. Girls have the same right to education as boys do. Educated girls can make informed choices, build stronger families, communities, and economies. An educated female population increases a country’s productivity and fuels economic growth.

When women are empowered, they live a fulfilled and productive life contributing to the development of their families and society at large. As we commemorate #womensday join us to empower women around the world through our Family Strengthening and Livelihood Program at icm.ngo/donations. Let’s make 2021 count for women and girls everywhere.

Gospel Outreach to the Inner Cities

This week also saw the introduction of a new outreach program to the Inner Cities, with the InnerCity Mission powering the inner-cites and underserved communities with God’s Word, taking the gift of Salvation to the indigent population there. Together, we are not just providing them with the lasting solution to the issue of poverty, we are preparing them for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The specialized global Outreach is the contribution of the InnerCity Mission and Partners to reach and win 5 Billion souls this year by taking the gospel to the inner-cites, slums, villages, IDP camps, and other places where the indigent and marginalized can be found. Gospel Outreach to the inner-cities takes the priceless gift of Salvation to the indigent, vulnerable and downtrodden in the inner-cities and underserved communities around the world as we contribute to the 5 Billion Mandate.
