The International Day of Happiness is a global holiday observed every year on March 20th to promote happiness, well-being, and a more compassionate world.
Since 2013, the United Nations has celebrated the International Day of Happiness as a way to recognize the importance of happiness and well-being in the lives of people around the world by promoting sustainable development and global peace.
Happiness is a fundamental human goal, and the United Nations recognizes this goal and calls for “a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes the happiness and well-being of all peoples.”
In 2015, the UN launched the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which seek to end poverty, reduce inequality, and protect our planet – three key aspects that lead to well-being and happiness.
Sustainable Development Goal #1:
Eradicating extreme poverty for all people everywhere by 2030 is a pivotal goal of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and is shared by Chris Oyakhilome, COFI, and the InnerCity Mission.
The InnerCity Mission (ICM) under the auspices of Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International (COFI) seeks to help the most vulnerable people and communities in some of the poorest countries and regions of the world.
Eradicating poverty has always been a top priority at the InnerCity Mission (ICM). Chris Oyakhilome was quoted as saying: “Global poverty is one of the very worst problems that the world faces today, the poorest in the world are often hungry, have much less access to education, regularly have no light at night, and suffer from much poorer health. Making progress against poverty is, therefore, one of the most urgent global goals.”
The InnerCity Mission embarks on numerous campaigns each year in order to highlight the plight of the needy, and find lasting solutions to hunger and poverty.
The theme for the 2023 International Day of Happiness is “Be Mindful. Be Grateful. Be Kind.”
We can create a happier and kinder world together by adopting simple, daily practices.
Happiness research has shown that one of the best ways to become happier is by bringing happiness to others.
Giving back not only helps others, but it also makes you feel good.
Taking the time to help the less fortunate will help you become more appreciative of everything you have. It will also give you a sense of purpose and add meaning to your life.
One Billion Meals Campaign through the InnerCity Mission
One of the latest campaigns from the InnerCity Mission is “One Billion Meals”. The Highly Esteemed Chairman of the InnerCity Mission, Reverend Tom Amenkhienan, said in his opening address to the public:
“The One Billion Meal Campaign is a God idea, so while evil men plot their wicked agenda to create an artificial food scarcity, suffering, violence, and death, the InnerCity Mission and partners would through this campaign, channel God’s goodness, unfailing love and his infinite abundance to the indigent.”
Reverend Tom Amenkhienan continued to say: “The One Billion Meals Campaign is an answer to your heart’s cry. You have been looking for how to serve God, you have been looking for how to serve others; The One billion meals campaign is the answer! …and as you go on, some of you will find out that you can sponsor 1 million meals, 1 thousand meals, or even just a meal, and you will make the difference when you fill a hungry stomach.”
The Esteemed Director of the InnerCity Mission, the Esteemed Pastor Omoh Alabi in her welcome speech said:
“They say hunger is the world’s most solvable problem and through the One Billion Meals campaign, we would be showing the world how to solve the issue of hunger collectively and as individuals, in the name of Jesus, and this guarantees lasting impact.”
The freedom to choose happiness is always within your control. No matter what life throws at you, you can always find a way to be happy—if you choose it.
