“Every Child is Your Child”, is a profound statement made by our founder Chris Oyakhilome in 2004. This statement is the foundation that birthed the InnerCity Mission (ICM) for Children. This statement is our driving force as we believe that every child is your child regardless of their race, color, or gender and every child deserves to live above poverty and become an active participant in socio-economic development.

Education

Poverty and education are inextricably linked, because people living in poverty may stop going to school so they can work, which leaves them without literacy and numeracy skills they need to further their careers. Education can be the catalyst needed to pull families and communities out of the cycle of poverty. Knowledge gives children the power to dream of a better future and the confidence needed to pursue a full education, which in turn will help generations to come.

The InnerCity Mission for Children, under the auspices of Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International (COFI), offers and supports various initiatives to mentally engage and provide continuous learning for vulnerable children who are at risk of falling far behind in their learning or may never return to school due to the effect of the COVID-19 crisis.

Through these initiatives, the InnerCity Mission and network of partners, sponsors, and volunteers are reaching out to hundreds of thousands of children in needy communities all around the world, to try and provide essential educational materials to enhance learning at home and promote literacy skills, making it easier, more interactive and convenient whilst awaiting the resumption of school.

Our partners in Christ Embassy Port Harcourt Zone 2 organized a back-to-school outreach that benefited 10,000 children in Diobu, Obelle, Ovugo, Bonny, and Oyibo communities. The children received scholastic and ministry materials that will enhance learning in their schools. This outreach was so impactful that over 1,050 children gave their lives to Christ and as a result, over 5000 children were present in church and more neighborhood churches have birthed.

“Doing good doesn’t cost so much, you just have to be willing to help!”

Hunger

There are times when help is available for the needy and vulnerable, but barriers prevent this help from reaching its rightful destination. These barriers include political unrest, economic struggles, religious differences, and technological disadvantages, all of which hinder this help from getting to those who need it.

Despite the rise in the number of people living in poverty, we believe that everyone deserves to live in dignity. The InnerCity Mission through her programs and initiatives is committed to ending extreme poverty and creating a world where every child has equal opportunities to thrive and fulfill their God-given potential.

Extreme hunger and malnutrition remain a problem we are committed to tackling through our robust feeding program. Our partners in Loveworld Zone J, visited Trinitarian foundation and Cornerstone Orphanage donating much-needed groceries that will cater to the needs of the children. In addition, they also provided food support for 100 families in Ekosodin and Isiohor communities, Edo state.
