The InnerCity Mission for Children (ICM), under the auspices of Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International (COFI), is always striving to mentally engage and provide continuous learning for vulnerable children who are at risk of falling far behind in their learning or may never return to school for many reasons including the effect of the COVID-19 crisis. To commemorate the National Day of Education, COFI is offering a chance to sponsor indigent children to go back to school for the next academic school term.

Education with Chris Oyakhilome

International Day of Education is an annual international observance day held on January 24 and is dedicated to education. On December 3, 2018, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming January 24 as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education in bringing global peace and sustainable development.

Every day, many children in the streets, slums, inner-cities, desperately want to go to school just like other children but they are hindered as a result of poverty. These children deserve a chance at a better future and through the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International, you can help.

Education is key to sustainable development

When it adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in September 2015, the international community recognized that education is essential for the success of all 17 of its goals. Sustainable Development Goal 4, in particular, aims to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” by 2030.

Education Transforms Lives

As Nelson Mandela rightly called education “the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Today, education is at the heart of the Sustainable Development Goals. Education is a human right, a public good, and a public responsibility. Through this initiative, the InnerCity Mission and network of partners and volunteers are reaching out to over 100,000 children in needy communities all around the world, to try and provide essential educational materials to enhance learning at home and promote literacy skills, making it easier, more interactive and convenient whilst awaiting the resumption of school.

Education is a basic human right, it has the potential to enable children to gain the life skills and knowledge needed to cope with today’s challenges and be agents of their own change, yet there are several factors such as poverty and violence limiting millions of children and young people around the world from getting an education. We need education to reduce inequalities and improve health. We need education to achieve gender equality and eliminate child marriage. We need education to protect our planet’s resources. And we need education to fight hate speech, xenophobia and intolerance, and to nurture global citizenship. Without inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong opportunities for all, countries will not succeed in achieving gender equality and breaking the cycle of poverty that is leaving millions of children, youth, and adults behind.

Through this initiative, the InnerCity Mission and network of partners and volunteers are reaching out to over 100,000 children in needy communities all around the world.

Challenges to Achieving Universal Education

With the help of our partners, sponsors, and volunteers, Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International is doing everything to help the future generations and eradicate the cycle of poverty to ensure continuous education. Education is the right of every child and the key to sustainable development. It offers children a ladder out of poverty and a path to a better future. But about 265 million children and adolescents around the world do not have the opportunity to enter or complete school; their right to education is being violated and it is unacceptable.  Millions more who attend school are not mastering the basics. This is a violation of their human right to education. The world cannot afford a generation of children and young people who lack the skills they need to compete in the 21st-century economy, nor can we afford to leave behind half of humanity. We must do far more to advance Sustainable Development Goal 4, to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. Education can also break and reverse cycles of intergenerational poverty. Studies show that if all girls and boys complete secondary education, 420 million people could be lifted out of poverty.

Fun Fact About Learning

Children who participate in laughing activities experience an increase in memory retention. Laughter is evidence of an active body, mind, and heart, increasing the chances that you can remember what triggered the positive emotion. Laughter not only increases a child’s capacity to remember the humor, but it also gives a feeling of security and satisfaction.

Proverbs 22:6 says: “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old he will not depart from it.” The early stage in a child’s life is pivotal to their growth into maturity and at the InnerCity Mission, we pride ourselves in bringing up Godly children who are profitable for society. Through our education program, we give needy children the equal opportunity and help them become who God has called them to be.

Through our education system with Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International, we give children a chance at a brighter future

Every Parent Wants the Best for Their Child

Every parent desires to provide a better future for her children, a delight to watch them excel in everything and become responsible adults, profitable to society. Unfortunately, not all parents see this dream come alive. You can sponsor dreams by giving. Not only do you bring hope, but you also make it possible for a family to be transformed forever. Make a parent’s dream come true today by sponsoring the education of a child in need.
