The Volunteer Medical Corps (VMC) which is an active member agency of the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International, donated medical equipment to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Ugbowo Benin City, Edo State(UBT). This is an exceptional act of humanitarian support for cancer patients in the Hospital’s Oncology Department.

 

VMC delivering hope and succor to cancer patients

 

The gifts provided by the VMC to UBTH were received with gratitude by the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Darlington Obaseki. The  Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Prof. Casmir Omuemu was in attendance. The medical equipment may have been valued at millions of Naira, but all those present realized they were a significant contribution to ensuring better health care access for those living with cancer within Edo and its neighboring states. The spirit of giving is beyond value.

 

Donations help the plight of those being treated

 

The VMC is a registered non-governmental organization donated goods in support of and to show their care for cancer patients in the hospital’s oncology department. Cash endowments were presented to the cancer patients who had been admitted to the oncology wards by the Senior Executive Officer of the NGO, Dr. Olajumoke Akisanya.

 

These donations were given as part of the activities of the ‘Light of Hope Project.’ This a campaign designed to raise awareness about cancer and the risk factors around the disease. There is a move to promote healthier lifestyle choices which reduce the risk. There is a call to advise people to go for relevant cancer-related screening.

 

Light of Hope

 

Through the Light of Hope Project, volunteers with the VMC carried out hundreds of humanitarian acts using the project as a platform to demonstrate love and compassion for those living with cancer. By presenting hundreds of patients with gifts and Christian literature they seek to uplift their souls and show that they are not forgotten.

 

The overall aim is to inspire hope for life in them. The Volunteer Medical Corps is a global medical outreach committed to providing medical care, relief assistance, and sustainable health care solutions in regions of crisis and to communities in dire need. It was established as an ever-expanding network of Christian medics and paramedics, health care professionals, humanitarian volunteers, and students. Through the efforts of its members in over 120 countries, so many lives have been preserved through the various medical and humanitarian work.

Prayer is an amazing component in healing

 

One of the female patients whose cancer was being managed by the hospital was ministered to by the VMC team during the visit. She immediately received strength and rose to her feet. After fervent prayers were said for her and the other patients in the ward the nurses on duty who were filled with great joy at this miraculous change. They stated that she had been unable to walk or stand since she had been admitted into the ward. Subsequently, she was given copies of the ‘Healing to the Nations’ magazine as well as the ‘Healing from Heaven’ to keep her faith-inspired for a complete recovery.
