The Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International (COFI) commemorates the International Day of Families today which provides an opportunity to promote awareness of issues relating to families, as well as to increase knowledge of the social, economic, and demographic processes affecting them worldwide.

The 2023 International Day of Families observance is to raise awareness of the impact of demographic trends on families. According to the United Nations, “demographic change is one of the most important megatrends impacting our world and the life and well-being of families worldwide.”

This day has inspired COFI and the InnerCity Mission (ICM) to focus on different areas of importance for families, like feeding programs, education, and healthcare.

The importance of families

Families are the foundation of any society. They help shape the values and beliefs of individuals while also providing a sense of belonging and identity.

Families also provide emotional and social support, care, and guidance to individuals.

International Day of Families plays an important role in recognizing the role of families in our society, together with addressing the many issues facing modern families today, like poverty and inequality.

Chris Oyakhilome has always put the well-being of children and families first, which he made clear by establishing the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International and also the InnerCity Mission for Children, one of the NGOs under the auspices of COFI.

The purpose of COFI is to reduce child poverty, ensure access to health care and education and ensure that indigent children have a prosperous future ahead of them.

Chris Oyakhilome founded the InnerCity Mission for Children in 2004, coining the profound statement: “Every child is your child.”

Over the years, the various initiatives and campaigns of the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International (COFI) and the InnerCity Mission (ICM), have impacted the lives of millions of children, parents, and families around the world in underserved, hard-to-reach communities.

Many low-income families find it hard to feed their children, and eradicating poverty, which is the main cause of hunger, has always been a top priority at the InnerCity Mission (ICM).

The InnerCity Mission has had remarkable achievements over the years, which are clear testimonies of the unwavering commitment to finding lasting solutions to the issue of poverty.

Celebrating our children

The 27th of May is Children’s Day in Nigeria. It’s an international holiday that was first established in Nigeria in 1964. The date it is celebrated varies between different countries. The day marks a celebration of children, raising awareness for issues that affect children and helping us appreciate that they are the future of our societies.

The InnerCity Mission was awarded the “NGO/HERO OF THE YEAR” Award at the National Daily Awards held in Nigeria. It was a celebration of excellence in various sectors of the Nigerian economy and life.

We would like to take this opportunity to offer our gratitude and appreciation to our founding father, Chris Oyakhilome, who has made such an impact on the Nigerian economy and population.

Chris Oyakhilome is a true Hero, who had the vision to impact the future of the indigent population of Nigeria and is continuing to make a significant impact through COFI and the InnerCity Mission.

We would like to offer special appreciation to our esteemed Board of Directors, staff, and our dear partners, whose continued support ensures that every day we fulfill our promise, to give the lives of the indigent a meaning.
