The dictionary defines the word “humanitarian” as compassionate and caring individuals, seeking to help promote human welfare. The progress and success towards the ongoing COVID-19 Emergency Food Response is truly a team effort. Volunteers work tirelessly to ensure the huge pile of food items are packaged and ready for distribution to thousands of vulnerable households.

Emergency Food Response Program

Global lockdown continues due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and governments around the world have taken measures to curb the spread of the virus, such as self isolation, social distancing, closure of businesses, travel bans, restricted movements and more. It is important to note that most of the beneficiaries are daily income earners whose source of livelihood was disrupted as a result of the recent preventive measures of lockdown. The victims of COVID-19 are not just the infected, but also those whose livelihoods have been cut short as a result of these preventative measures, particularly the indigent and vulnerable families. These are the people that bear the brunt and their children are experiencing hunger in isolation. In response, the Inner City Mission, under the auspices of the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International (COFI), have embarked on an emergency food relief intervention to reach out to needy and vulnerable children who have been affected by the recent preventative measures of lock down of the nation. The collection of the food will be distributed to thousands of affected families.

Yesterday, it was the turn of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration to benefit from the love and charitable donation as it received 2 truckloads of items containing food Palliatives for 2000 families. The FCT Minister for State, Dr Ramatu Tijani Aliyu was thrilled and commended CE Abuja Ministry Center under the auspices of the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation for the enormous donation, referring to the State of the Arts Maternal Health Care Facility donated on the 5th of March, and noting that barely 2 months later, on the 5th of May, the Church is back again with another mind blowing contribution.
